Eternal Kiss of Darkness (Night Huntress World, Book 2) (The Night Huntress World) e-book

by Tavia Gilbert,Jeaniene Frost

Why did it have to end?! Eternal Kiss of Darkness is again, another winner for Jeaniene Frost. style of writing is as appealing as ever, and I always look forward to whatever she has in store for her fans. Eternal Kiss of Darkness takes the reader through a hodge podge of emotions including sadness, fear, surprise, joy, righteous anger and titillation.

are introduced in Night Huntress' series At Grave's En. Eternal Kiss of Darkness was definitely better than First Drop of Crimson but not remotely on the same level as the Night Huntress books (Cat and Bones).

are introduced in Night Huntress' series At Grave's End. Patra is the daughter of her Egyptian namesake, Cleopatra and the wife of Mencheres who turned to dark magic in an effort to gain more power than her world afforded her. Long since seperated but not forgotten, she is back and wants to take out Cat, bringing Bones and the special forces working with Mencheres and Bones line to fight he. Characters are not particularly individualized, they don't have their own "voice".

Eternal Kiss of Darkness, . Part of Night Huntress World series by Jeaniene Frost. Disbelief battled with the memory of everything she'd seen. Even if she wanted to believe that her long night without sleep had made her see things that weren't real, her blood-smeared, perfectly healed stomach was a reminder that her eyes weren't playing tricks on her. She hadn't imagined the agony of her flesh being ripped open, either. Or the coldness that had seeped through every pore, the sense of fading away.

I'm going to start by saying the book really deserves 3.5 stars, however amazon doesn't allow for half stars. There are a lot of things I really liked about the story and some that didn't wow me.

Private Investigator Kira Graceling is walking through a rough neighborhood after a late night stake-out when she hears the sounds of someone in trouble. She thinks about just walking by but knows the police won't arrive in time to save the person's life so she rushes into a condemned warehouse to help. Four thousand year-old co-master vampire Mencheres isn't really in trouble, but he's about to be. When a feud that's lasted for thousands of years spills over into Kira's life, Mencheres feels the need to protect her, but ends up putting her life in jeopardy. Can Mencheres gain the help he needs from his friends to save the love of his life?

Likes:
1. Mencheres is much more than the heartless vampire that was introduced to us in the Cat & Bones storyline. We are given insights into his marriage with Patra, why he killed her lover, and why he's certain he's facing death.

2. The female lead (Kira) isn't a pathetic human who can't fend for herself. She was trained to be a cop and, though that didn't work out, still is able to provide rational solutions in a world she doesn't understand.

3. There are new characters introduced that give us more insight into vampire politics.

4. The villian is a villian for very human reasons. He's jealous, plain and simple. Much better reason than the demon had in First Drop of Crimson.

Dislikes:
1. After having read the first two chapters, I had to check the front cover (which, by the way, is poorly photoshopped) to make sure that it had really been written by Jeaniene Frost and not Stephanie Myers. The whole I-can't-read-your-mind thing is a little overdone. Several other instances in the book made me wonder if Jeaniene had read Twilight series before writing this novel.

2. The research is poorly done. I LOVE the fact that the author wrote in a character with Cystic Fibrosis, but it's obvious that she didn't talk to anyone who actually has the disease (or anyone in CF care). Yes, it's true that caregivers used to have to pound the back of the patients to break up mucus, but nowadays it's done by the Vest Clearance System, the Acapella device, or just by huff-coughing, very rarely is it ever done by hand. Also female CF patients aren't sterile, as she has written it in the book (95% of males are, however). They might miscarry if they are very sick, but they are able to have kids.

3. I love the Cat & Bones stories, but throwing them in this spin-off series just isn't working for me. I can't wait until their next novel arrives because I feel as if they are being short-changed in the Spade/Mencheres stories. In First Drop of Crimson, it seems as though Cat would abandon her best friend, though that's not how she seems to be in her novels. In Eternal Kiss of Darkness, Cat just seems out of place, while Bones just keeps moaning, "No, don't do it (figuratively, of course)."

For me, the likes outweight the dislikes, but I'd like to see more from this series. Hopefully there will be books for both Tepesh and Ian.

I am still working my way through Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress and Night Huntress World series of books. This series is one of my favorites. I like paranormal, and I like romance. I’ve been taking my time with this series because I don’t want it to end.

In this novel set in the Night Huntress World, we finally learn more about Mencheres, a mega-Master vampire thousands of years old who is the leader of the family to which Jeaniene Frost’s Cat and Bones’ characters belong. Mencheres has been in most if not all of the books in the series thus far, but he was a peripheral character and not entirely likeable for the choices and decisions he made in past installments. He has done a lot to wreak havoc in Cat’s life.

He rules over a vast empire of vampires, and his power level is so great that he can kill without even touching his opponents. One of his gifts has been his ability to see visions of the future. When his visions stop, he is convinced that the darkness he sees indicates that his existence will soon end. He is overwhelmed with guilt over past deeds, and he decides that he has ruled long enough. Although he physically resembles a man in his mid-20’s, his thousands of years of existence weigh heavily on him and he is ready to die. He plans his own death.

He doesn’t expect to be rescued by a human female who comes across him giving up in a battle that he could easily have won. Kira Graceling is a private investigator on her way home when she hears the sounds of someone in pain. Kira is dealt a fatal blow by Mencheres’ attackers, and he must give up his wish to die to in turn save her life. Once she has seen that he is not human, he cannot just let her go as he finds that he is unable to erase her memories.

I really liked this book, and I like how Frost is writing about characters other than Cat and Bones. She incorporates her two main characters in to these Night Huntress World books and they become peripheral characters while the other characters get a chance to shine. I liked that fairly early on in the book we learn that Kira is in love with Mencheres and not long afterward, he confesses that he loves her, too. I’ve never been a fan of romance-type stories where the confessions of love happen at the very end. I also like that Kira’s love never wavered. She stayed steadfast and true, no matter what happened. She was a strong character. In this book the two main characters nicely complement each other and work together against the evil that they face.
