Was that a Harlequin Presents I just read? I found it hard to believe! This is more than a story of local orphan boy done good. If one did the nature vs. nurture research, Jared would have been a statistic of one of society's burden. Nothing good ever happened to this lad, but one kindhearted gesture from Amanda's grandfather put him in the right direction for life.

Amanda was rich, Jared was poor, and now the positions were reversed. Jared still saw Amanda as the princess that was unattainable. He kind felt she was born of nobility and he the peasant who got lucky in trade. These two were very brave survivors.

Amanda was a virgin, Jared of course was your typical alpha but not the sort who leapt from one bed to another (at least it didn't seem like it). Both characters had major emotional issues that were very well fleshed out. The author presented both characters with such depth that I began to wonder if I was reading a Harlequin. This was the "deepest" Harlequin I've ever read -- hands down. Mind you, I have read more than a few back then and now.

After a few disappointments from Natalie Anderson, she won me back with this one. Read her book His mistress by arrangement, similar to this and yet not similar at all. You'll see what I mean after you read it. It will not disappoint you. As for this one, its a keeper for my ereader library. Good job Ms. Anderson!

I agree with one of the reviewers...ignore the title. The title has nothing to do with this story. She throws an advertising pitch to his company and the book shows them working together for the first half of the book..that is it with the boardroom. I like how they have history but hate how they ended that history a decade earlier. I also hate that he disliked her when they first met up on the plane because he viewed her as spoiled. He then later said that he liked her a decade ago even if that was how she was. Make up your mind. I do think that they had communication issues when they were younger. She wanted him because she was lonely and saw something in him that she says would have fit with her. He just wanted her. I do like how when everything fell apart, they handle the re-connection very well. It was super emotional and I felt so bad for both of them. They could have had something real from the beginning at a young age if they had let themselves. I feel bad about all that time lost but love that they got to be together now. It was a sweet and touching story.

I don't know what it is about Natalie Anderson's stories that keep me from scoring them above 3.5 stars. She's a decent writer, her characters have pretty fleshed out back stories as not to be caricatures and her story lines are go to romance formula; but for some reason I always feel as though something is missing in the end. Such is the case with HOT BOSS, BOARDROOM MISTRESS.

I've already come to terms with the ridiculous title. All that's left is the storyline, which reads like standard romance fare: Amanda Winchester is a riches to rags story. Her grandfather was wealthy and well known in their small town, but dementia and bad investments got the best of him. Jared James is the boy she lusted over who came from the wrong side of the tracks, yet rejected the rich girl's (and many other women's) advances. It's a reversal of fortune story as Jared becomes a rich and successful businessman, while Amanda is the poor assistant that happens to be apart of the agency trying to score a deal with Jared's company. They see each other again and their simmering unrequited mutual affection is brought to the forefront. Like Natalie Anderson's other works, the book was formulaic in nature: Amanda was a hot wreck in her youth; Jared clawed his way to the top and had some prissy hot wreck girlfriend-slash-bad childhood turn him into a commitment-phobe as well; they've hot chemistry from the first and decide to do the no-strings-attached dance until they ultimately feel more and push each other away.

The writing flowed and Jared and Amanda were fine enough characters. They had some depth and chemistry and their motivations didn't seem one dimensional or forced, but the story just wasn't that good. I think much of that had to do with the pacing: I ended up skipping pages, but could pick right up a chapter later and not be confused or feel as though I missed something important at all. It was a decent read, but I've read better from Anderson.

I like the chemistry between Amanda and Jared- it was hot. Plus they had history. Going from a young teenager with an abusive alcholoic parent who worked with Amanda's Grandfather to a super rich and powerful millionaire who now had Amanda in his employ, Jared just couldn't resist Amanda. This time, tables were turned, but Amanda still felt the way she did earlier. Enjoyable!

This is such a well done story of a teen crush coming full circle into adulthood. He was the poor older boy, she was the rich girl crushing in a bad way. But there is much more depth to this tale thanks to great backstories for each character in their home town. It's now almost ten years later and they meet again over business in the big city and their fortunes have reversed. All of the usual ingredients come into play: longing, erroneous assumptions, explosive passion, and then the bargaining. And the characters bargain with themselves and each other as they come to grips with their very real adult relationship. The author handles all these fine strings so well, and gives the reader a love story to treasure. Jared and Amanda Demanda are so good together, I've read this twice since it came out! Enjoy!

Wow! Yes, like someone else mentioned, ignore the title. It's funny, the title just isn't worthy of the story. This book just draws you in as if you are part of the storyline, a sideline observer. It was very moving, passionate. Two troubled souls, each of which, did not have the ideal time growing up who meet again years later. A great story, great characters. I definitely recommend this one.
