I purchased this dictionary because my Filipino teacher reccomended it on her syllabus. I found some of the pages copied poorly, making it difficult to see how some words were spelled. If there are several Tagalog words for one English word they will show one in a sentence but not describe the difference of the other words. For someone new to the language I found the dictionary a little bit helpful and a lot frustrating.

This is a great book! It has about 5000 of the basic words you need to know and examples sentences with them! I am using this book to brush up on my Tagalog after 20 years of being home from the Philippines. I like this book better than others because it has so many examples which help you learn grammar without studying grammar so much and also because it is more modern Tagalog. The Tagalog isn't so deep that it has words that many Filipinos don't even understand and yet not too shallow either. For anyone who has a goal of basic fluency, this is a great resource.
My grandpa used to have this book back in the day; so when I went to the Philippines, I saw this there and bought it. I bought more copies from here. The beginning of the book shows grammaticals and how to form sentences. The book is split in half. It is a GREAT reference book for beginners and those who've forgotten words...
