The art of Jane Wooster Scott speaks to all generations of living Americans, and to generations yet unborn, who savor our nation's rich heritage in all its colors and manifestations.Wooster Scott, a Philadelphia native, has traveled the length and breadth of the United States recording an era that sets forth the standards and values of this country. Combining a keen eye for beauty, humor and the zestful energy of this youthful colossus of the Western Hemisphere, Wooster Scott captures the essence of the American people, their traditions and institutions. Her naif art brings to life the broad American landscape, dotted as it is with cities, towns and villages unique to our culture, along with farms, factories and waterfronts that are singularly New World. She offers us a perfect portrait of ourselves and our forefathers and a spark of hope for how we will be in the centuries ahead. As a painter, Wooster Scott has succeeded in advancing the intricate discipline of naif art to its highest plane, popularizing primitive American painting in Europe, Asia and other parts of the world. She has been hailed by critics nationwide, but the truest test of the artist's worth is her popularity among collectors of her original canvases and countless thousands who treasure her lithographs and serigraphs. Some 175 paintings represented here in An American Jubilee, The Art of Jane Wooster Scott reflect twenty years of dedication to preserving the priceless panoply of a nation unlike any other in the history of mankind in which the dignity of man has blossomed as never before.

A very nice, thick book full of full color photographs of her artwork. I use it for inspiration. I look through it all the time. Charles Wysocki is still my favorite though. His works seems a bit sharper and more detailed, but she has a little more whimsy in her work.

The book was well packaged and arrived promptly and in excellent condition. I love Jane Wooster Scott's artwork. This book details some of her best-known prints. I wish I could own one of her original paintings. Her paintings are known world wide for her amazing folk art take on turn-of-the-20th-century lifestyles. She captures Americana traditions, holidays and special occasions like no one else.
Jane Wooster Scott was named by the Guinness Book of Records as the most reproduced artist in America, beating out runner-up Pablo Picasso for that distinction. As an artist she stands alone as the finest painter of Americana art, prints and posters on the planet. She has become legendary for her exceptional scenes of America’s celebrations and holidays, providing a trove of visual lore unlike any other. Her paintings trace the cavalcade of the American experience. Wooster Scott has an unfailing eye for the charm and magnificence of her native land and paints art, prints and posters in her own breathtaking style for the ages. Jane Wooster Scott's paintings depict scenes of our national heritage, our customs, our holidays and our traditions proudly displaying our celebrations at the turn-of-the century and early 20th Century America. She never had a lesson in art! Never! I think she tries to bring to life an era in America we all wish we had known. I see a time of tranquility, gallantry, simplicity and harmony in her paintings that have not been lost by reproducing them in much smaller versions like the Christmas card I chose this year from Peter Pauper Press via Amazon.com.
I think her detailed artwork tries to find heart, humor, passion and drama in the American condition. I picked her Christmas card because of all the detailed images. Our lives are filled with details. I simply like looking at the picture on the front of the card because with each glance you note a different detail. The Christmas card like the original painting beckons your imagination and you end up focusing on a different detail each time you look at it. There will be no more Wooster-Scott paintings because the artist has sadly passed away. Well worth the purchase!
