James O'Barr is an American graphic artist, best known as the creator of the comic book series The Crow. Early life - O'Barr, an orphan, was raised in the foster care system. Career - In 1978, O'Barr enlisted in the Marines.

O’Barr’s use of high-contrast black and white creates a certain film noir feel, much like Raymond . It helps to set the tone of the narrative and provides fantastic insight into what James O'Barr bled into his story from his own unfortunate life experiences.

O’Barr’s use of high-contrast black and white creates a certain film noir feel, much like Raymond Chandler’s work (itself referenced in Robyn Hitchcock’s Raymond Chandler Evening, which O’Barr quotes), helps to portray this bleak world where life is disposable. O’Barr portrays the Crow and other characters with overly large eyes, the better to make them more expressive, and the Crow himself appears androgynous in many scenes, unlike other male superheroes, so that what matters most about him is his pain rather than his manliness.

From Selected Poems by Robert Lowell, published by Farrar, Straus .

On a thousand small town New England greens, the old white churches hold their air of sparse, sincere rebellion; frayed flags quilt the graveyards of the Grand Army of the Republic. The stone statues of the abstract Union Soldier grow slimmer and younger each year- wasp-waisted, they doze over muskets and muse through their sideburns.

Nonetheless, his single book of poetry, Jimmy’s Blues, never achieved the popularity of his novels and nonfiction, and is the one and only book to fall out of print.

The poems contained in Life and Death in Black, White and Blue are about life and love, sorrow and joy and ultimately the things that happen in life that make it into the lives that we live. The stories are simply little things that came to life in my head as I dreamed the dreams that reminded me that I was alive. I hope you enjoy reading them.

The cover is misleading, as there is no art inside this book.

I am a big time "Crow" fan. I loved O'Barr's work and seeing his latest cover was all that I needed to buy this book. After reading it, I can say the poetry has matched its beautiful cover.

Ro Blue's poems and short stories are universal. There is something here for everyone and you don't need to be a lit major to enjoy it. His poems range from day to day events to asking the big important questions. My favorite is Heaven, where Ro wonders who is right about the afterlife.

Life and Death in Black, White and Blue is for both the serious reader and for those of us, who only read poetry at school because we had to.

...but then, I'm biased...

I wrote it. :)

I would like to thank James O'Barr for providing the cover art that accompanies this little project. He is a brother to my soul.

Hope you like it.
