It is a lousy book.Don't buy it. The author wasted this precious opportunity to learn about these ancient people of this land, and never bothered to learn anything about their history. These are the original inhabitants of what became Tanzania, who are being pushed off the land to make room for national parks andfor settlements of the so called "Bantu" majority. It is very sad.

You don't have to be an anthropology student to enjoy this book. It's a very accessible, readable book about a vanishing culture, that captures a five year period (1955-1959) in their very long history.

Not just species of animals are disappearing. All over the world rich cultures are being assimilated and pushed out of their original homelands (as a previous reviewer had mentioned) and as is often true with cultures that have oral histories, much is lost. More is always better, but good that we have something, and something readable.
