Getting Married Can Be Murder All Jake Coletrane wants is to marry his girlfriend, Rachel Thorne. But there are a few obstacles standing between him and happily ever after. Namely a UFO True Believer s convention that has barred from his hotel, a psychic from a ghost hunting reality show who is convinced that the ghost of Jake s last wife is out to wreck the wedding, the seven Renassance wedding planners who keep tacking on fees and Rachel s increasing Bridezilla tendencies. But when the hotel manager drops dead and signs point to murder, Jake knows that it will take more than his famous luck to solve the case and get them to the altar on time It s going to take good, solid detective work. Fortunately, Jake is the police officer for Tranquility, Arkansas. And he has help Rachel and her Dr. Doolittle-like ability to talk to animals, Average Jones and her empathy and Dr. Dave s medical expertise. Jake will need all the help he can get. Because in a haunted hotel, marriage is murder and someone wants to take till death do you part literally.

Very good book, kept my interest. It was funny, and quirky. I only wish it were longer. I look forward to more Tranquility books.

The story takes place in northwest Arkansas, a place known for its inhabitants who march to their own drummers. The town of Tranquility is no exception. It seems that almost everyone has a "talent", like speaking to ghosts or animals, or having incredible luck. Jake, the town sheriff is ready to marry Rachael, the local vet and speaker to animals. The venue is to be a palatial hotel in town that is reputed to be haunted.
If the hotel was not haunted at the beginning of the novel, it has three mysterious deaths in the three days before the marriage is to take place. To make maters more interesting, a UFO convention has half the hotel, in costume. They distrust, even hate government and have a paragraph in their contract forbidding any government official (read Sheriff Jake) from coming anywhere within 50 feet of their convention. That makes for some interesting maneuvering since the wedding is on the floor above the convention.
The bodies keep showing up and Jake must decide between preparing for the wedding, putting up with the wedding planner, a local who has adopted a French accent and his six lackeys and investigating the murder. He decides to do both, while cringing at his ideas of the renaissance costumes that the wedding planner is going to force him into.
This book has a marvelous locale, wackey characters and a fast moving plot. It's one that you will reluctantly put down to go into work.

Author Tracy S. Morris delivers a wonderful and humorous read that revolves around the town of Tranquility, Arkansas. Fast-paced, this is a tale that kept me laughing about the everything that could go wrong at the time that you want everything to be perfect. Murder, UFOologists that have booked the much coveted hotel, a madcap paranormal investigative group, and a young lady that thinks like the worst Bridezilla I've every seen makes me commiserate with the poor hero, Jake. All the while, I'm laughing at the well written mad-cap adventure. To say I loved Bride of Tranquility is an understatement.

This is the first I have read of this series or author. Actually it was the first I heard of it too. I am really glad I read it and am looking for more in this series. It has a interesting cast of characters and that was just the people in the town we got to meet here. As the main setting is really just out of town I have a feeling there are a great many more to meet. And I am looking forward to reading more about them and what happens in their slightly crazy town.

This was an enjoyable read with a lot of fun elements--some gentle satire, a bit of a ghost story, Southern charm, magical realism, and a good mystery. The characters were endearing and interesting, quirky without being too much so; I especially liked Rachel, the town of Tranquility's very own Dr. Doolittle--with ferrets.

TRANQUILITY was the first novel by Tracy Morris that I'd read, and I enjoyed it enormously. Tranquility, Arkansas, is one of those small towns with one foot in the twenty-first century and the other somewhere around the middle ages. Adding to the fun are the denizens of tranquility. One of my favorites (who, unfortunately, doesn't appear in this one) is the doctor's assistant who has fifteen-second precognition and answers questions before they're asked, which makes dialog involving her especially lively (as well as a real challenge to the writer.) But the other characters (and I use that term carefully) are all here and all fun. The synopsis pretty well covers it, but it can't convey the fun. Poor Jake Coletrane, the sheriff and a widower, just wants to marry the second love of his life, Rachel Thorne, but she's turned into Bridezilla, the hotel in which the wedding is to take place has been rented and largely taken over by UFOologists, and to add to the mix is a television crew from something like Ghostbusters with a psychic. Then a body turns up. The psychic is convinced that the spirit of Jake's first wife is behind the killing and we're off and running in a mystery mixed with copious doses of madness. Good timing, since this book would make a great holiday present for anyone who needs to laugh.
