Faust Book: The Faust Book, translated by P. F. Gent. which formed the basis of Marlowe’s Dr. Faustus. The comic book Faust was published in the 80s and 90s by artist Tim Vigil and writer David Quinn. Marlowe’s Faustus (1616): Tragical History of Dr. Faustus, Kit Marlowe’s Faustus free at Project Gutenberg (Quarto of 1616). The book follows a story template similar to the opera Faust, but is an updated version.

Faust is the protagonist of a classic German legend, based on the historical Johann Georg Faust (c. 1480–1540). The erudite Faust is highly successful yet dissatisfied with his life, which leads him to make a pact with the Devil at a crossroads, exchanging his soul for unlimited knowledge and worldly pleasures. The Faust legend has been the basis for many literary, artistic, cinematic, and musical works that have reinterpreted it through the ages.

The poetry is wonderful.
CrazyDemon
Excellent translation though the story itself did not interest me much.

Here are some quotes from the translation:

He who strives and ever strives, him we can redeem.
This is the farthest human wisdom goes: The man who earns his freedom every day, alone deserves it, and no other does.
For strict discipline and speedy work I promise rich rewards.
The world always has something to offer to a man of worth. When he sees it he should hang on to it and shape his life accordingly.
Generous deeds bring rich returns.
Remember your purpose and keep your mind on big issues.
What moves the heart must come from the heart.
Whoever desires to possess the fairest of women, let him be practical above all and see to his armoury* to defend her from cunning men and
Among little people you do little things. Great people make a little man great.
Try grabbing at girls and gold and greatness. Fortune usually favors the grabber.
When people are distracted, they're useless.
Earn the lesser things by way of the higher.
If you want miracles, strengthen your faith.
A real man can achieve anything if he takes hold intelligently and doesn't delay. Scene 26
To get your wish, your every wish, turn your eyes to the light.
Lose no time, be bold, let others doubt and linger.
Feeling is everything. Words and just sound and smoke, bedimming the light of heaven.
Just have more confidence in yourself and you'll be alright.
Above all else learn to manage women. There's one treatment that will cure all their manifold troubles. And if you make some show of honesty, you'll have them where you want them.
You'll never do this, if you don't feel it.
What you don't do today, you won't find done tomorrow.

When I read through the introduction, I was surprised to find out that this work was the result of a lifetime's endeavor - because it's relatively short. While authors these days churn out 600 page books on a yearly basis, this man wrote over the course of his life. The writing is very different from modern day authors such as Steven King, in that detail is only applied to objects sparingly, where as S.King's books tend to delve into details at will.
Ttyr
