Ladd, Alan Walbridge, 1913-1963, Motion picture actors and actresses.

Ladd, Alan Walbridge, 1913-1963, Motion picture actors and actresses. New York : Arbor House. ark:/13960/t6m05cq59.

Alan Ladd, he "blazed across the screen like a young Greek god" in the 1940s and 1950s in such films as This Gun .

Yet on January 29, 1964, at the age of fifty, he died, alone, from a combination of pills and alchohol. It increased my respect for Mr. Ladd's subtle, but high effective, acting skills. A wonderful, highly instructive read. I highly recommend it. This book enabled me to appreciate Mr. Ladd's films to a much greater extent. Great book ... and EXTREMELY well-researched. Alan Ladd was a BIG Movie Star in the truest sense of the word for 20 years. But, as with many of us, he carried around some emotional burdens of his own. And for the most part, he handled his life very well, and had successful, well-balanced children. But as Lloyd Nolan, one of his select best friends once said ... his 'issues' could well have played a part in his death at only age 50. In my opinion, 'Gone, But Not Forgotten' does not do him justice.

An excellent and very comprehensive biography of Alan Ladd full of interesting and often surprising detail. It increased my respect for Mr. Ladd's subtle, but high effective, acting skills. A wonderful, highly instructive read. I highly recommend it. This book enabled me to appreciate Mr. Ladd's films to a much greater extent.

Alan Ladd was my Hollywood hero when I was a child. Therefore, I was so disappointed in th man and his life. Not the man I thought he was You should make your own decisons. My childhood dream went poof!

Over the past year I have developed an interest in the movies of the 40's and 50's through a friendship developed with a screen writer.Alan Ladd struck a particular interest because of his sudden rise and then abuse of by the studios. The book gave great insight into the actual sadness of the man and the character of the times. Interesting reading

Excellent biography! I grew up in the 40's during Alan Ladd's great career. I remember seeing an office building in Palm Springs, CA,, labeled the Alan Ladd building, when I vacationed there. I had no idea of the stories behind his marriages, especially the one to Sue Carroll. He died way too young! For once, here was a famous actor who seemed to be devoted to only one woman.

I loved this guy since seeing GUN FOR HIRE way back in the 50's. I believe it is a worthy addition to a serious film fan's book shelf. A much underrated actor. Basically a simple man with talent. An easy read that filsl the knowledge gap.

Great Book. You end up feeling sorry for Alan but it was still a good read. The book looked new but I had to put package tape on the binding which is covered up by the jacket.
Only four stars because I understand that some of what this author wrote was not exactly correct - don't know myself - but being an Alan Ladd fan it was a nice read.
