The Cold Room (Taylor Jackson Series) e-book

by Joyce Bean,J.T. Ellison

The Cold Room is the fourth book in the Taylor Jackson series. I loved to read this series initially because I like the strong character of Taylor Jackson. Ellison writes a good plot and her characters, for the most part, evolve with each book.

The Cold Room is the fourth book in the Taylor Jackson series. After reading this book though I was a little disappointed in the plot and the main character, Taylor Jackson. I felt like the plot was dragging a little and could have been wrapped up sooner. The plot unfolded nicely but there wasn't any big revelation here, I knew what was coming.

Homicide detective Taylor Jackson thinks she’s seen it all in Nashville — but she’s never seen anything as perverse as The Conductor. Later, he creatively disposes of the body by reenacting scenes from famous paintings. Strangely, similar macabre works are being displayed in Europe. Taylor teams up with her fiancé, FBI profiler Dr. John Baldwin, and New Scotland Yard detective James “Memphis” Highsmythe — a haunted man who has eyes only for Taylor — to put an end to The Conductor’s art collection. Has the killer gone international? Or are there dueling artists, competing to create the ultimate masterpiece? “Fusing gritty cop drama with dark psychological thriller, Ellison distinguishes herself with exceptional character development, consistently breakneck pacing and a sense of authenticity.” - Chicago Tribune

The fourth book in the Taylor Jackson series is as riveting as the first three. More about serial killer(s) and more about the Predator. Jackson and Baldwin are up to the eyebrows in interstate and international murders. Then there is Baldwin's British colleague who won't leave Jackson alone believing he can take her from Baldwin -- shame on him! All the more to add tension to an already multiply-tense story. Fascinating characters, obviously detailed forensic and police procedural research (British, Italian and American) and excellent emotional turmoil. Simply excellent!

BTW, these novels can be stand alone; however, if you start from the beginning you will enjoy getting to know the relationships.

WOW! I just finished The Cold Room. I still haven't caught my breath. That was one amazingly intense story. I read it in one sitting, I couldn't put it down.
The Cold Room is the fourth book in the Taylor Jackson series. After she was demoted in the previous book, Taylor is trying to deal with being just a rank and file detective again. Her team has been broken up and all working in different parts of Nashville. She has a new partner who has been a detective for all of one month. And she has a new lieutenant who seems more interested in making sure rules are followed than solving murders.
When Taylor is called into a murder scene on her day off, she knows nothing good is going to come of it. And she's right. When she sees that the body has been displayed, she calls in her fiance FBI profiler John Baldwin. The news he brings is distressing. This case is mirroring one hes been working in London and Florence.
The next day another body is found. And again it displayed to look like a famous work of art. Baldwin's cases in Europe are young extremely thin white women. Taylor's cases are two African American women.
The autopsy reveals, like Baldwins cases the women were contained somehow and starved to death. And someone has had sex with them after death.
DNA is found and it seems Baldwins killer has jumped continents.
Baldwin is also working with a detective from New Scotland Yard. "Memphis" Highsmyth. Who upon first laying eyes on Taylor, deems she is the spitting image of his dead wife. He decides she will be his.
This book has such an amazing twist in it. I was blown away. It was so well written, some might find the subject matter a bit difficult but it does not take up a lot of page time. It was interesting to watch the two cases come together. I loved it. If you like a good thriller/mystery ala John Sanford or Karin Slaughter you'll love this one too.

More or less whacky. Author seemed intent on proving a point on identical twins than providing the reader with a spellbinding mystery.

Taylor Jackson novels keep you involved. Problem is we need a follow up to the series. The novellas are nothing but a teaser to buy the full book, which I think is a collaboration of writers, which I think is bad promotion.

A fantastical story about twins separated at birth with a wild and outrageous twist, this one has me saying "no way" a few times. I didn't like Memphis much but I think that was the point.

A creepy bad guy/guys, and the introduction of a new character (who was mostly annoying), made this one a quick read. I know that new character will show up again, so I hope Ellison makes him more sympathetic in later books. I was interested in the chase in this book, but the extra stuff between Taylor and the British detective was off-putting. And WHEN are Taylor and Baldwin going to get married - or are they?

Another great book from J.T. Ellison. The subject was a little eerie but it was still a good book. Love her books and the Taylor Jackson series.
