The Chairman: A Novel (Christian Gillette) e-book

by Stephen Frey

This was an uneven book. It had some good concepts with bad execution. The main character, Christian Gillette, becomes head of a major business when his predecessor dies.

This was an uneven book. Christian inherits a lot of responsibility and a huge number of conspiracies swirling around him. He's supposed to be a master schemer and manipulator, yet manages to either miss or guess wrong on most of what goes on around him.

But now Gillette will be put to the ultimate test. Stephen Frey is a managing director at a private equity firm. He’s offered the chance to seal a deal unlike any other, one that goes beyond boardrooms, balance sheets, and even Everest itself–one that will leave its mark on history. Gillette is no stranger to Jesse Wood, the first African American president of the United States, having been Wood’s chosen running mate in his historic bid for the White House.

Power Broker by Stephen Frey. The Power Broker: A Novel (Christian Gillette). First in Silva's Gabriel Allon series. Rather than the US-Russia spy novels, Silva introduces us to Israeli intelligence via their legendary assassin. Thought it would be more da Vinci code but more like James Bond. Nice for an audio car ride novel.

This is drivel of the first order. Even the superlatives have adjectives tacked on them. I got about 10 pages in, gritted my teeth and read another 10 pages before realizing that life is too short to devote any time to this book. I've read some of this author's other work and it's been entertaining. He's no Rex Stout or Tana French. So perhaps this is a "contractual obligation" book, who knows? Just don't waste your time.

I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. The author occasionally throw in little surprises to keep the story interesting. Many times when a story jumps from character to character I find it difficult to keep track of the storyline. Although Stephen Frey jumped from character to character often I found it easy to follow the storyline and it kept any part of the story from getting boring. Looking forward to reading another Stephen Frey book to see if he can keep me as interested in the story as he did in The Chairman.

Extraordinary
Seldom read a so captivating, well written thriller.
Realistic and describing corporate cultures where competition mixes with regulations and human qualities.
I go on with this author and thanks to kindle!

I had read the reviews and was looking forward to it, but after read for 45 minutes it started getting very sexually explicit. Not my cup of tea. May be ok with others but that will make me drop a book faster then anything else. Sorry I spent the money.

This should definitely become a movie! It has a beautiful plot and more twists and turns to count. You can not tell exactly who to root for as the story unfolds and the focus shifts from one direction to the next. I loved every second reading it! Super job!

Have to read this straight through or don't even start! Corporate conspiracy at its best! Really a fabulous story of greed!

Christian Gillette, just 36, is promoted by a narrow vote to be The Chairman of Everest Capital, a premier private equity firm in New York City following the untimely death of his predecessor. Lot's of excitement comes from the plot. Including parts played by some of his former colleagues who had been managing partners in the firm,a U.S. Senator with Presidential ambitions,a chief investment officer of the country's largest insurance company, two brothers ex FBI agents offering worldwide security services and a competitor from another large equity firm. Did the former chairman die of natural causes? Who was attempting to murder Christian Gillette and why? You'll find out as you quickly turn these pages.
I like the thrust of Frey's books and the fact that you might not be able to guess the outcome until the last few pages, but they are starting to get a little wordy and splintered. In this book as with many of Frey's books people do almost anything for money and power. Even your "best
friend can become your foe if offered enough money.
