Thanks to David A. Fury, for writing about Chuck Connors, and then thanks again for putting it on KINDLE !

Chuck Connors has been a hero of mine for the past 50 years, being the star of 'The Rifleman'. He IS Lucas McCain, nobody else would do this role justice, not even in a re-make.

I enjoyed the stories of his sports career, especially the one of his 'Player's Revenge'... when he found a heckling sports fan at HIS job, and turned things around to give HIM a tough time on the job...

I had read a similar story about Chuck Connors here in the DFW area from a newspaper column, when he was playing (probably in the minor leagues) and some out-of-control fan began berating a fellow team-mate for the color of his skin... anyhow, Chuck Connors found this fan at his work, and started giving it back to him, until the guy apologized and said he'd learned his lesson ... anyhow, it seems Mr. Connors didn't take abuse, and he also looked out for his teammates.

I also would have liked to have heard more about his marriages, but I guess he didn't really want to talk about that. It was good of Mr. Connors to shoulder the blame, saying he'd been too busy with his career to focus on his marriage(s)... I was left wondering, whatever happened to wife #2 & #3 ? They just kind of disappeared.

A sad note: Saw that Patricia Blair passed aware very recently. Another talent gone.

Missing the WWII Generation ... they had a different, probably better set of values. Sure would have liked to have met the big man

Wonderful resourse for fans of Chuck Connors and a superb introduction to those curious about this larger-than-life multi-faceted man. While there is a lot of captivating personal information, both from Mr Connors and from many who knew Chuck, this is not a psychoanalytic treatise and those looking solely for detailed accounts of Mr Connor's relationships with family members may be disappointed.

Rather, the easy-to-read pages over-flow with detailed accounts of Mr Connor's fascinating multi-faceted carreers as TV and Movie actor and his diligent climb to the major leages of both professional baseball and basketball. No wonder "Lucas McCain" brought such a commmanding presence to ABC's "The Riffleman"!

This Kindle edition includes more photos and a listing of all the Rifleman shows, both worthy additions to the original hard-back edition which is out of print and selling on ebay for $100-200 on the rare occasion a used copy is listed.,

David Fury has created a detailed and colorful tapestry of Mr Connor's life that will capture any reader curious about Mr Connors let alone those already hooked by Chuck's wit, playfulness, creativity, solid integrity and dogged pursuit of his professional careers.

Well, all in all, I liked it, mostly because I love Chuck Conners and anything I can read about him I enjoy reading. I wasn't crazy about the detailed plot descriptions of every, single movie. It was as if this was just done to fill space. It wasn't relevant or necessary. But I loved all the photos and I do feel that I know the "man" a little better and miss him even more than before. I have read the other reviews and they all have valid points and I can understand why the book disappointed many. But, I would still recommend the book to anyone that is a fan. It is nice to know that after all these years, Mr. Conners still has a huge fan base and is still touching lives. I think he would have liked that.

After buying a couple other "Chuck Connors" books on Amazon that were just disappointing crap, it is so refreshing and wonderful to read this book by David Fury. It is obvious the author admires the subject of the book and wrote the book with that admiration beaming from every page. The book takes the reader from Mr. Connors early years, thru his rise to stardom and sadly, to Mr. Connors passing in 1992. It includes some wonderful pictures and since the author was able to interview Mr. Connors, he includes wonderful first hand stories from the "Big Man" himself. Plus, Mr. Fury has a writing style that I enjoy. Breezy and easy to read and follow. He drew me right in and transitions from chapter to chapter perfectly. If you love Chuck Connors and "The Rifleman" as I do, you have to add this wonderful book to your library. Thank you, David! Well done!

I had been wanting to read this book for years. The first half was a recap of CC roles in movies(a summary of each movie and what role CC had in the movie) and tv, his sports life and military life. There was hardly anything about his life outside the film industry. The last half of the book gave a brief summary of each and every Rifleman episode. Plus listed the names of all the episodes from the other tv shows CC was in. So basically the author sold a book filled with information that can be found anywhere on the internet or just by watching movies and tv shows CC was in. I was really disappointed in this book. Still love CC and his role as Lucas McCain.

This book is a nice biography of Kevin Joseph (Chuck) Connors was very enlightening. I enjoyed reading this, from his childhood to his TV/movie career as well as his sports career. I knew that Connors played professional sports, but the book gave great detail about his careers in baseball and basketball (for obvious reasons-he was 6'5"). I enjoyed the book very much since I fell in puppy love with both Connors and his TV son, Johnny Crawford, when I was only 6 years old. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good biography.

Chuck Connors: The Man Behind the Rifle
I knew very little about Chuck Connors. I was too young to remember the original showing of the TV series. I started watching The Rifleman this year and was happy to find the series was started at the beginning on METV. I love the Rifleman and it has become one of my favorites. This biography starts with Connors' sports career and ends with his death. Mr. Connors was a wonderful person and I'm very happy to have learned more about him. For anyone who loves Mr. Connors and The Rifleman, I highly recommend this book.
