The second volume expounds classical analysis as it is today, as a part of unified mathematics, and its interactions with modern mathematical courses such as algebra, differential geometry, differential equations, complex and functional analysis.

This book is intended to serve as a text in mathematical analysis for undergraduate and postgraduate students. S C Malik had been teaching graduate and undergraduate analysis courses for more than three decades. It opens with a brief outline of the essential properties of rational numbers using Dedekind's cut, and the properties of real numbers are established. This foundation supports the subsequent chapters.

The purpose is to provide development of the subject-matter which is well motivated, rigorous and at the same time not too pedantic. Most of the hard theorems which are either omitted or treated rather skimply in many texts in advanced analysis have been proved with care. Some of them are ordinarily considered too difficult for a standard course in calculus but too elementary for a course of analysis. With the inclusion of those theorems, the book attempts to fill the gap and to make the transfer from elementary calculus to advanced course in analysis as smooth as possible.
