I attended a foreign medical school and used this during my Medical Microbiology & Immunology course. Fast delivery of a product that is better than described. The Medical Microbiology & Immunology Book is well and worth every cent spent.

This book is nice for two reasons-- *First, it is a great text to use while taking a Micro/Immunology class in medical school. It always provides a basic framework for understanding each concept or organism, it is organized nicely with a lot of bolding and great tables, and it is up-to-date. *Second, it is good for board review. The tables are easy to study from and there is a 40-page section titled "brief summaries of medically relevant organisms" at the end of the book. In addition, there are 100's of review questions and a section with 10 clinical cases to test your knowledge. These features are nice because the book can be a little dense at times. *My advise--buy the book to use during class and then you will already be familiar with it for board review.

Medical Microbiology and Immunology Examination and Board Review is an excellent book to use while taking Medical Microbiology and for review for the USMLE Step 1. I find the chapters succint yet filled with pertinent information. The key words are in bold for easy recognition and recall. I really like the brief summaries in the back, which give you an quick overview of the key information for a particular microbe. It has questions and cases in the back that cover all the topic areas and a practice exam for the USMLE.

Warren Levinson is a genius! This book is absolutely brilliant. I would recommend it to almost anybody who doesn't like dumbed down books like Lippincott. Levinson's Microbiology is clear and comprehensive. It tells you exactly what to focus on, and cuts out extraneous details. The immunology section is even better! You'll love this book. The questions are even fantastic in helping you remember all the bugs, and the quick summary reviews at the end make this book worth your while. One recommendation for the next edition is to add more clinically relative laboratory perspectives. Make tables and keep reviewing until the day boards comes.

'Medical Microbiology and Immunology: Examination and Board review' is more than a good book. The organization and contents of the book are great. Summaries of the most important microorganisms at the end of each section of the book make it excellent for quick reviewing what one has just read. Also, the book includes unique chapters like normal flora, laboratory diagnosis, and vaccines which are really helpful. The immunology section extensively provide a solit understanding of the immune mechanisms, using illustrative figures and mnemonics. Moreover, the MCQs at the end of the book, along with the clinical cases, emphasize on the important areas in medical microbiology.
One more thing I have to complement is the use of bold font in the book; this made skimming chapters quickly before a final microbiology exam a 'stressless' event, and gave confidence.
To be neutral in my review, the book lacks a good mycology section (You need another book for mycology).

This book was one of the pillars for my step 1 score (253). The book is interesting but not "ridiculously" so.. and contains many "exam type" information such as unique molecular features, unique pathogenic mechanisms and great epidemiology, which helps you to figure out whats going on with a particular vignette. The only thing i would ask others to NOT focus on are the antibiotics chapters, which seem to go into too much detail. More relevant for step2 and step3. Finally, as an IMG thanks Dr. Levinson, you made microbiology very interesting and helped me build my career.!
I used this book primarily during my microbiology course. I did reference it while I studied for Step 1 also. The end of this book that contains "Summary of Medically Important Bacteria/Virus/Fungi/Parasites" is a great resource to have. Get this one early and read it, then reference it as needed for your board prep.
