In 2006, Dave and Christie Nasser welcomed a Great Dane puppy into their lives - the runt of a litter of thirteen who won over the hearts of his new owners with his soulful blue eyes. They named him George and he swiftly changed their lives. Standing at almost five feet tall and seven feet long, George has come to dominate the Nassers' home. He has grown from a quivering misfit into a goofy giant - eager to play with everyone and boisterous to the point of causing chaos.

In the book "Giant George: Life with the World's Biggest Dog," author David (Dave) Nasser tells the story of his family's life with their pet Great Dane who grows to be the world's tallest dog. Christie, Dave's wife, makes a deal with Dave that she will move to Tucson if he allows her to get a dog. She chooses a Great Dane, whom they name George.

With his big blue eyes and soulful expression, George was the irresistible runt of the litter. But Dave and Christie Nasser's "baby" ended up being almost five feet tall, seven feet long, and 245 pounds. Eager to play, and boisterous to the point of causing chaos, this big Great Dane was scared of water, scared of dogs a fraction of his size and, most of all, scared of being alone. GIANT GEORGE is the charming story of how this precocious puppy won Dave and Christie's hearts and along the way became a doggie superstar. In 2010, George was named by Guinness World Records as the Tallest Dog in the World-ever. He appeared on Oprah, and even has his own global fan club. But to Dave and Christie, this extraordinary animal is still their beloved pet, the one who has made them laugh, made them cry, and continues to make them incredibly happy.

I LOVE THIS SWEET AND GENTLE BOOK! IT WAS INSPIRING AND HEARTBREAKING, FUNNY AND VERY READABLE!!
A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE AFRAID OF BIG DOGS BUT LIKE GEORGE, BIG DOGS ARE VERY LOVABLE. OUR BIG DOG WAS A LABRADOR MIX NAMED MILO AND WEIGHED ABOUT 125 #. HE AND GEORGE WOULD HAVE LIKED EACH OTHER! MILO DIED IN MAY 2008; WE'D HAD HIM SINCE JANUARY 1994. HE WAS THE BEST DOG--LOVED US, LOVED KIDS. UNLIKE GEORGE WHO HATES WATER, MILO WOULD STAND IN HIS WATER BUCKET EVERY CHANCE HE GOT. HE HAD HIS OWN KIDDIE POOL AND WOULD SNAP AT THE FISH PAINTED ON THE BOTTOM. WE HAD TO WATCH HIM NEAR OUR POND BECAUSE HE WOULD JUMP IN AND SWIM AROUND FOR QUITE AWHILE. HE LOVED TO CHASE OUR DUCKS BUT GRATEFULLY HE NEVER GOT NEAR ONE. THEY WERE SAFE WITH HIM THERE. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, HE USED TO CHASE COYOTES AWAY FROM THE POND EVEN.
IF YOU LOVE DOGS, YOU WILL LOVE THE STORY OF GIANT GEORGE BY DAVE NASSAR.

This story is about the runt of the litter who grew to a Guinness record in size AND the couple who chose to bring him into their lives. Having gone thru similar situations, the comfort found in the companionship of a big dog with a big personality is well told. George is 8 or 9, quite the senior for his breed. May we be blessed with this wonderful Giant in their lives and ours for a record breaking length of years!

Update: Giant George actually died recently, just shy of his 8th birthday. Those of us who have followed him on his website miss him almost as much as those who were blessed to share his life. Visit his web site. Read the book. These folks have done good stuff with and now in memory of GG.

This book was especially emotional for me due to recently losing my Great Dane. The stories Of George brought back fond memories of the happiness one experiences when you have a close bond with a pet or man's best friend. I'd recommend reading this book, weather you like dogs or not.

From the time George came into Dave & Christi` s lives he had his tail wrapped around my heart. Being a former Great Dane owner only enhanced the story for me and My Sheba was only 140 lbs. of love. I thoroughly enjoyed reading how the runt of a litter grew to become a star with all the trials and tribulations that come with fame .George always remained down to earth as close to it as he could ( being the tallest dog and all). George will live in all the hearts of those who read his tall "tail" and you will fall for the wonderfully loving parents who had the biggest hearts to care for such a great dog

If you've ever had a great dane or have been thinking about getting one, this would be a great book to read. Can't say enough about how good this book is and there were parts that really had me laughing because I've had four danes. Thought the part about them shopping for a larger mattress for George was so funny and I could relate because I went shopping for a twin size mattress for one of my danes because she outgrew the crib mattress and the guy at the store thought we were over the top getting a mattress for a dog, but he was glad to make a sale.

So many dog books are along the line of Old Yeller, where the dog you've formed a reader-bond with dies at the end and you end up bawling your eyes out. Not this one! George keeps you smiling and laughing, from descriptions of his counter-surfing prowess to the mayoral dignity with which he greets his "constituents." I recommend this book to all dog lovers, but especially to lovers of giant breeds - as an English Mastiff owner, I recognized many goofy, lovable traits that my big guy has as well. Best wishes to George for a long, happy, healthy life!
As a dog owner myself, I know how much love a dog can inspire in a life. I also know that sometimes we forget they are a dog and we talk to them like we would talk to our best friend.

that's how this book is written. George isn't just a dog, he's part of a very special and amazing family who despite some difficult strains of owning quite a large dog, they love and cherish him as part of their pack.

What a sweet and wonderful book this is about such an amazing dog.
