As a college educator in the history of architecture, furniture and the decorative arts I think the Boger is a very good overall text both to students and interested others.

As a college educator in the history of architecture, furniture and the decorative arts I think the Boger is a very good overall text both to students and interested others. Information on furnitre prior to Gothic is the weakest, and would reccomend other texts to satisfy those needs. Photographic reproduction quality in some instances barely passable.

In-Depth Histories of Furniture Styles with 200 pages of Photos. Published by Thriftbooks. com User, 10 years ago. From Front Jacket: "Here in one volume is a comprehensive guide to the stylistic development of domestic furniture from classical times to the present in Europe, America and China. Starting with a resume of ancient and medieval furniture, and with detailed chapters on the furniture of Italy, Spain, and the Low Countries, the book then takes up the great periods of French and English furniture from the Renaissance through Empire and Regency.

Great book for a history of furniture styles! Published by Thriftbooks. The front half of the book is very detailed information about each of the styles as well as specific pieces within each style. The pictures are disappointingly all black and white, but it keeps the cost down I suppose. This is the best resource for visual identification of styles from Egyptian through Twentieth Century that I have seen, and I have seen quite a lot of them. The front half of the book is very detailed information about each of the styles as well as specific pieces within each style

the book is arranged oddly, all the text in the front and all the pictures in the back, but thats ok! it has tons of wonderful black and white pictures of beautiful furniture all nicely arranged and labeled. the only reason i gave it a 4 intead of 5 is because color pictures would have made it so much better.

This is more of an encyclopedia... With a detailed description of the furniture styled from different periods... Very few photos... And theyre in black and white... Good book... Just not what I expected.

A College textbook or reference-type book. Comprehensive--fine print. Seemed a good read, but I didn't like the set-up. All text was in the front, and the examples and photos were grouped in the back. One would need to flip back and forth to view examples of the subject matter. Didn't work for me.

This is the only reason I gave it a low rating, and returned the book.

I have used this book for about 15 years are a reference for names of particular pieces of particular periods.
I like it because it gives an excellent context and history of each period and style. It's not the most up-to-date- scholarship, and it would be better serves if color pictures of furniture were posted along with their history, but show me another text that is as comprehensive and diverse as this. It's a keeper.
