Support freedom of speech! Jesus: Legends and Truths by Karl Kautsky. The true story of Jesus life and mission can still be ascertained by sifting out fact from fiction.

Karl Kautsky has analyzed the Gospels, discarded the many fictions and presents in his findings on the Passion what is probably the closest picture of Jesus, his times, his teachings and his contemporaries. The Jesus of legend is replaced by the Jesus of reality and emerges from the myths and legends woven long after his death by a church that had divorced itself from its early Jewish origins and in doing so, condemned the Jews for the Passion of Christ

The release of the motion picture on the Passion of Christ has stirred tremendous public interest in the subject of the final days of Christ s life and mission. The moving story of the Passion is based entirely upon the Gospels of Christ s Apostles but extensive research has proven much of the material contained in these Gospels is either fictitious or represents facts badly misinterpreted. The Jesus of legend is replaced by the Jesus of reality and emerges from the myths and legends woven long after his death by a church that had divorced itself from its early Jewish origins and in doing so, condemned the Jews for the Passion of Christ. The new Christians were no longer Jews but Romans, and others, and it was viewed as politically incorrect to blame themselves for Christ s public execution by the Romans. This historical detective story, well footnoted and thoroughly researched, will certainly anger some but it should certainly fascinate many others as the real Jesus emerges from centuries of myths and legends.

In an age of rampant political correctness, this book is a welcome change from the usual pious and blinkered studies of the life of the Christ and his passion. The author has analyzed the Gospels with the eye of an historian, found many errors of fact and logic and has gone on to the recently-popularized Passion of the Christ and used the same historical and literary skills to dissect the subject. This is not an attack on the existance of Jesus but a study of the extensive propaganda that has covered up the real figure. By stripping off the accumulation of fictions and myths, the author shows us what, in the final analysis, was the real Jesus of history. A powerful and dynamic leader whose mission and preachings were taken over by later generations of politicians and throughly obscured. This is well-written and heavily footnoted and yet is an easy and very comprehensive read.

The Passion of the Christ is a red hot topic these days what with the release of the Gibson blockbuster. This book is a very well researched study of the origins, and accuracy, of the Gospels of the New Testament. It tends to be a bit controversial but the scholorship is certainly there...the book is heavily footnoted...and for someone with an open mind, it is an excellent detective story and very clearly written. For the price, you can't beat it. It makes a good read and I have loaned it to five of my friends, all of whom were fascinated by what it has to say.

These are the time that try the souls of real Christians. This book is a typical example of what we have to face from Satanists and Secular Humanists! The author of this book now questions the accuracy of the Gospels of Jesus Christ. This cannot be done as the Bible is the Literal Word of God and cannot be questioned! Nitpickers and others just love to tear the Gospels apart as the author has done. He questions Josephus and his accounting of the Christ. He says the passage is a forgery! What if it is? We do not depend upon one man's opinion for the strength of our faith. Some have said that the sacred Shroud of Turin is a fake. Again, so what? Your last review said this book is controversial but I see no controversy here. I would put books like this and the Satanistic Harry Potter books in the same place; the garbage can. Children should not be allowed to read either book. Young minds have to be protected from such insidious underminings. In the final analysis, this is a question of belief, not fact and Kauatsky cannot undermine my own faith, no matter how many footnotes he uses or how much logic he presents. Karl-Heinz Mueller
