Cutting Your Family's Hair Paperback – August 1, 2005. I cut my own hair from this book (not the easiest or the brightest accomplishment) and it wasn't the worst haircut I ever had; it was pretty decent.

Gloria Handel (Author), Mickey Baskett (Producer). I actually got a couple of compliments on it- mostly because my hair gets very frizzy and fly away when it's long and I always get compliments when I cut it shorter.

The authors describe how to cut the hair of your friends and family, plus remedies to keep your hair healthy and shining. The book includes close-up photographs and detailed instructions to teach you how to hold the scissors and comb, the angles at which to snip and how to establish guides to the correct lengths.

This book is great for the person who cuts their family's hair anyway and wants better technique, for the person who is interested in cutting hair, and for someone who wants to learn more about natural hair care products. I thought the photos were great and made the tips easier to follow. The author did a great job of bringing a lot of information together in a readable format.

Cut out the tags and punch a hole over the small dark hole on the right side of the tag. Thread a piece of string or ribbon through the hole and tie it to the handle of the Easter basket. Cutting should be done by an adult.

No more bad hair days ever again! Give those you love the cut they want--plus remedies to keep those tresses healthy and shining. Close-up photos and detailed instructions teach you how to hold the scissors and comb, the angles at which to snip, and how to establish guides to the correct lengths. Then comes an array of cuts, with and without bangs, shown from start to finish: easy-to-care-for trims for children; blunt-cut, wispy, and layered styles in all lengths for women; and basic short versions for men. As a bonus there are recipes for natural, homemade hair-care products.

My husband's hair grows faster than mushrooms on a damp night, so you can imagine how much it would cost to keep his hair trimmed. He used to just wear it long but that's no longer practical. I had been cutting his hair, but all I could do was give him a buzz cut with the clippers, or this strange cut that made him *look* like a mushroom.

I guess I wanted more inspiration.

I liked this book because it covers hair styles for men, women and children. Most of the styles are simple enough for beginners but there are also more advanced techniques included such as layering and blending. Also, the styles are not trendy at all. You won't find the Rachel cut, or the Farah Fawcett shag. Instead these hairstyles are classic and should endure for years and years to come. Also included in this book:

* How to do bangs, blunt and curved.
* How to do a blunt cut for short, medium or long hair
* How to do layered cuts for short, medium and long hair
* Children's haircuts for boys and girls
* Four classic men's hair cuts
* Hair preparation, cutting angles and how to establish guides

I'm a visual learner and the tons of photos really helped. I also liked that the photos were of real people with all shapes and sizes of faces, with all types of hairs. Not the professional models where every hair cut would look fabulous on them.

An added bonus is a section that gives recipes for shampoos, rinses and hair moisturizing treatments. The author argues that it is sometimes cheaper to make your own haircare products and that many manufactured products have a petrolatum base which can build up in your hair.

All in all, I have been very satisfied with this book. It covers everything about the basics and hair care to boot! It does not have a huge selection of styles to choose from, however for my purposes, it is more than adequate.

For someone just learning to cut the hair of anyone in your family, this book is great. There are many colorful pictures of the actual angles in which you should cut he hair. It also includes the final result pictures. There are a limited number.of. hairstyles for men, women, children and teens. All of this is worth the price of the book but she includes face shapes to help you decide what hair style is best for each family member. Read it a few times and then try your hands at her techniques. Just make sure you have a great pair of scissors.

I knew that I could cut my kids hair, but what I didn't know is if I could cut so it didn't look like I cut it!

Admittedly my first hair cut, for my daughter, was a little rough looking. But fixable...by me. My, second cut, on my son, was considerably better!

This book helps....A LOT! It has handy pictures and good explinations. Admittedly, all of the hair cuts are pretty basic, but I think that is all any of us really want to do!

There is also information in the book about how to bring out the highlights in one's hair and various rinses, conditioner recipes and such.

So, I would easily recommend this book!

The directions are easy to follow. Buy the basic tools then teach yourself how to cut hair, if this is a new hobby/skill. When beauticians or barbers don't give you the look you want exactly, then learn to do it yourself. A few rounds of haircuts will, in essence, pay for the tools you use.

I didn't see a hair style I wanted in this book, but I did learn in general how to make a few different cuts. I purchased hair shears from Amazon too and would recommend having the right kind of scissors to cut hair. I think for the price, it's worth looking through this book to get ideas about how to start, but I really just had to learn by doing my own hair style.

I went through a brief yet comical stage of wanting to cut my own hair to save money. Let's just say this book did nothing to help the situation :-). I'm sure there is a good book out there that clearly instructs one how to cut hair, but this one did not do that, for me, anyway :-).

I'm not sure if anyone can learn to master a skill from a book; could you really learn a language or how to cook by reading about it, especially if you're a beginner? But you can get some basic skills and I found this book to be a good beginning. The photos are clear as are the directions. The author uses large, clear photos of each stage and she discusses how to "section off" areas of the head to make it easier to see what you're doing and then describes how to cut the hair in that area. I cut my own hair from this book (not the easiest or the brightest accomplishment) and it wasn't the worst haircut I ever had; it was pretty decent. I actually got a couple of compliments on it- mostly because my hair gets very frizzy and fly away when it's long and I always get compliments when I cut it shorter. But it was a very basic cut, the styles are a bit dated and there are only pictures for a few styles. I have fine, medium-length curly hair and there were no pictures or detailed instructions for my type. The author does suggest variations on the basic styles she does give, but without the pictures and the step-by step instructions, I felt it was a little too complicated to chance. I could have followed the style for long, curly hair, although it was for thick hair, but the style was awful even for the 1970s, when it was in fashion.
Still, you can easily learn to give a basic cut or trim friends and family members' hair in between visits to the salon with this book and also save a bit of money and feel proud that you can do something for yourself. And if you really love it then you can go and enrol in beauty school. As for me, I am going to buy a French language CD.
good for cosmetology student or just home cutting use.
