This story is so fantastic that it takes two books to tell it. This is the second book of the two book series. Cord McFarland is the hero of the first book, SOMEBODY'S DAUGHTER while Margaret McFarland, Cord's sister, is the heroine of THE DAUGHTER'S RETURN, the second book of the series. Cord and Margaret head up a cast of larger than life real people who leap from the pages of this heartwarming two-book tale. Twenty Six years previously, their world was ripped apart when Cord and Margaret's month old little sister was stolen from her bed, never to be heard from again. I definitely recommend reading the two books in sequence because the significant sub-plot of the little sister's kidnapping takes two books to tell it.

The heroine of THE DAUGHTER'S RETURN is Margaret (Maggie) McFarland. At the time her baby sister was kidnapped she was only 4 years old. From that time forward her entire life and the lives of the rest of the family have revolved around the loss of that daughter/baby sister. Maggie is now a prominent attorney and driving force behind the family foundation devoted the finding and returning lost children to their families.

Our hero is Jake Halsey, a CIA operative who is recovering from injuries received during a covert CIA operation. As part of his recuperation, Jake is sent to Salt Lake City for therapy at facility specializing in his type injury. While he is there, his CIA superior arranges for him to become part of the staff at a private genealogical research facility. Surprisingly, Jake, a rugged man with an adventurous nature, finds the detective aspects of genealogical research both stimulating and rewarding. He meets Maggie after she contacts Jakes genealogical superior seeking help in tracking down leads in an attempt to find individuals possibly connected with the abduction of her baby sister. Jake's CIA connections give him a significant advantage in the search and he begins to make progress.

There are many surprises, twists and turns in the story that keep the reader engrossed and spellbound. I have now read 14 novels by Ms. Winters who has demonstrated consistent expertise in character and plot development. She really knows how to tell a story. I guarantee you will love this two book set, but read the books in sequence one after the other for the best experience. This book rates a solid 5 stars on my scale.

This is one of those stories that should go on and on. With each story more amazing than the one before.

This book was in very good condition. I like to find the sequal books that are by the same author and have the series characters in them.

Unfortunately, the item I purchased was lost in the mail. It was by no error of this seller. Just something that happens. The problem was quickly fixed. I will still purchase from this seller if they have something I am looking for.

An on the job injury probably means the end of field work for CIA Agent Jake Halsey. Still he is highly regarded so no final decision has been made as his superior wants to allow Jake time to heal before they reassess.

Jake goes to Salt Lake City to recover, but is irate that he must recuperate when his stepmother is missing and probably in deep trouble. To pass time he works as a genealogist. Attorney Maggie McFarland, CEO of the Kathryn McFarland National Foundation that has recovered thousands of missing children, hires Jake to track her younger sister Kathryn, abducted over two decades ago as an infant. Jake feels in his element with the only new ingredient being that he is falling in love with his client who reciprocates though she feels guilty by doing so when her now adult sibling remains lost.

This exciting thriller highlights the impact even years after of an abduction of a beloved; Maggie has more than just dedicated her life to the memory of the incident as she attempts to find her sister; she gave up her own life until Jake enters the scene. The story line is a fabulous investigative romance starring two individuals with scars that have not healed. THE DAUGHTER'S RETURN is Rebecca Winters at her best, which mean contemporary readers will want to peruse this one sitting thriller.
