Gathered Dust and Others e-book

by W.H. Pugmire

A few years ago at my blog I posted an interview with Pugmire that went over quite well, so my first thought was to invite the author to do a new and updated interview here as the real focus of this introduction. Surely he must be busy now with resuming those neglected projects.

I told him. One can sense within one’s soul its agedness. Why, even the hoary darkness seems more venerable than ordinary shade. Stanley groaned wearily. Please, Willy, don’t wax poetic.

I told him. Please, Willy, don’t wax poetic es me gas when you talk like an Oscar Wilde fairy tale. Leaning next to him, pressing my back to the cool brick, I gazed toward heaven. Ah, dear boy, that is not a fairy tale moon. It is the rapacious moon of Salome, casting its edacious light upon the doomed, the dead.

Dark Regions Press presents Gathered Dust and Others by . Pugmire as part of Dark Regions Digital. This new book is a testimonial of Nyarlathotep's hold on Pugmire's withered brain, and these tales serve as aspects of a haunted mind. Along with stories that have not been reprinted since their initial magazine appearances, The Strange Dark One includes "To See Beyond," a sequel-of-sorts to Robert Bloch's groovy tale, "The Cheaters;" and the book's title story is a 14,000 word novelette set in Pugmire's Sesqua Valley.

Gathered Dust and Others Perfect Paperback – March 1, 2012. Pugmire has been writing professionally since 1985. Lovecraft fanatic, his work is most often in the Cthulhu Mythos vein. With his first collection from Dark Regions Press, W. H. Pugmire continues his radical and obsessive reinterpretations of H. P. Lovecraft's brilliant fiction. Among the book's original pieces is the title story, "Gathered Dust," a sequel to J. Vernon Shea's "The Haunter of the Graveyard." Set in Arkham, this tale of utter strangeness concerns the legacy of Randolph Carter and a monstrous burying ground where the phantoms of the past linger so as to feed upon the living. In "Depths of Dreams and Madness" we journey to Pugmire's Sesqua Valley, wherein we find Lovecraft's artist, Richard Upton Pickman and Robert E. Howard's mad poet, Justin Geoffrey, tainted by the valley's supernatural lunacy. With "These Deities of Rarest Air," Pugmire continues his exploration of the prose-poem/vignette sequence, in a work that deliciously evokes the mystic aura of not only Lovecraft but Clark Ashton Smith as we ll. With artful decadence and a pen dipped into the dark fin-de-siècle poetry of Oscar Wilde and Charles Baudelaire, Pugmire celebrates his beloved genre of fantastic fiction with works that only his cracked skull could conceive. Jeffrey Thomas has provided a provocative Introduction. "Wilum Hopfrog Pugmire is the prose-poet of the horror/fantasy field; he may be the best prose-poet we have." - S. T. Joshi "In my opinion, he's the best living writer of Lovecraftiana." - Toren Atkinson, of the band Darkest of the Hillside Thickets "Sometimes subtle, sometimes as blunt as a rosewood coffin, Pugmire's stories are always emotional. Drawing from his own rather bizarre life, it's often difficult to separate the facts from the fiction, even for those who presume to know him." - Ken Abner, editor of Terminal Frights

As you know, the best dust gathers on your bookshelf which I hope is filled with weird fantasy paperbacks. You dust off a couple occasionally to reread them. You sneeze and wish you had them on kindle despite the beautifully lurid covers.

Here is a guy who can sympathize with you. One can tell he knows his HPL, his Klarkashton, and Hugh B. Cave among others of the pantheon of horror.

Forgot to mention the title story is a sequel to one of my all-time favorite Lovecraftian tales "The Haunter of the Graveyard" by J.Vernon Shea.

If you love HPL, You gotta check out Pugmire.

Mysterious scribe Pugmire expands the Lovecraftian circle with well-written, moody and disturbing yarns that will surprise and creep you out!
blac wolf
Dark, intoxicaing mix of lovecraftian structures, royal yellow madness and gothic classic galore. A "must read".

What can I say but that its is a collection of Weird fiction which was what I was after.

I only read this because I liked a collaboration by Jeffrey Thomas and W H Pugmire. I found theses stories to be disjointed and annoying. They all seemed the same.
Malhala
His stories are more descriptive prose than plot. They are beautifully written but not much happens. He reminds me more of Poe than Lovecraft.
