Nice romance and engaging writing style (despite somewhat contrived plot premise and need to suspend disbelief). Loved the mature Hero and heroine and their interactions. Secondary characters were good (even the requisite "spoiled brat" character was well-written and not too over-the-top). Ending was "happily ever after" but last three pages seemed vaguely inconsistent with rest of story.

'Honey-pot' was a nickname aptly bestowed on Russet Ingram. Lovely, well-born, well-dowered, she drew all men to her. Yet here she was, a prisoner of the one man immune to her graces - accused of frivolously tampering with his young ward's romance! A man with manners more suited to his ancestral highland clan than London society, James Cameron was the enemy she must escape at all costs - or risk the ruin of her reputation and her beloved sister's marriage hopes...

I love Mira Stables' novels. She is one of my all time favorite writers. This is the one novel of hers that I will never read again. It is basically a story of Stockholm syndrome turned into a Regency romance. The supposed hero is nasty and brutish. He kidnaps the heroine injuring her in the process, then confines her in a room by herself for weeks until she goes mad, unable to eat and talking constantly to herself. All this time he never sees her. Later in the novel he pulls another nasty trick on her, to coerce her into marrying him. After all this, she decides she loves him (Stockholm syndrome), and they theoretically live happily ever after. I don't like romances where abuse masquerades as strength, and bad temper is the defining characteristic of the hero. Sorry for the rant, but I was so disappointed in this novel! From the description, I thought it would become one of my favorites, and instead it doesn't resemble Stables' delightful romances at all.

My favorite Mira Stables has been The Byram Succession for several years and generally enjoy picking up any new ones. This one made me laugh out loud (in the best way!) and I just loved it.

Mira Stables set this book a little before the Regency period. It mentions using chairs to be conveyed to an evening engagement, and I like her description of the season drawing to a close and people realising just how much they have spent. The hero is a dour scot James Cameron who has made a fortune in India who unfortunately has a niece who persuades him that Russet Ingram the heroine is trying to lure her intended away from herself. James eventually acts and Russet finds herself his prisoner in an exotic household of Indian servants.

It was such a well-written story. Ms. Stables brought us from the glittering of London's Season to a quiet and homey country estate; from tedious parties to exciting escapes; and from two hostile misunderstood characters to transformation of two people in love. It had a wonderful characters' development. I love Ms. Stables works.
