The daemon prince savoured it all, landing in front of the knights with a great bellow. Opening up his immaterial form to the magical winds that poured from the north, Sutenvulf pulled the power of raw Chaos into himself, feeling invigorated and strengthened. He drew his sword, taller than a man and forged with runes in the Dark Tongue that twisted in on themselves when seen by mortal eyes, and held it above his head.

Realm of Chaos: Slaves to Darkness is the first of a two volume hardcover series which introduced the rules and background information for the conflict between mortals and Chaos in the Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 settings. Its companion volume is Realm of Chaos - The Lost and the Damned.

The old warriors of chaos enter the Mortal Realms as the re-done Slaves to Darkness. The Slaves to Darkness fight for any of the chaos gods or the gods as a pantheon, and can be built in a variety of ways with plenty opportunity for synergy between heroes and units. Reuses Warriors of Chaos models from WFB, making them a quasi-old-school faction (or at least a money-saver). And the new models themselves aren’t too shabby either.

Gird returned with a waterskin clasped in his clawed hands, and passed it to Jakob. Unstoppering it with his teeth, the shaman upended the skin over his face, letting the cool water splash over him. It ran in rivulets down his gnarled skin and soaked into his dirty furs. With a snort, Jakob cleared his nose and tossed the empty waterskin onto the table before wiping his hand across his face. he said and he leaned forward, resting his arms on the table, the fused mess of his hand and staff held out in front of him. 'For a long while I didn't think.

This was another gift to my father in law, because he likes to read, and these kinds of books are what he likes. I win.

Great book, you really feel for the curators.

I had to start the story twice because it was the first Warhammer book I read after reading mainly Warhammer 40,000 books. After getting into it I ended up finishing it quickly and had to pick up Book 2 to continue the story. Easy read with some characters that seem very real with their own flaws.
