The Morning Glory War: 9 e-book

by Judy Glassman

The Morning Glory War book. I just found out this book was written by Audrey Vernick's mother! Sadly, Judy Glassman died (car accident) before it was published.

The Morning Glory War book. Jeannie, a fifth grader during World War II, supports the war.

THE MORNING GLORY WAR By Judy Glassman. 119 pp. New York: Dutton Children's Books. Sense of place is the central delight of Judy Glassman's lighthearted story of a schoolgirl living in Brooklyn during World War II. It is a setting young readers may be especially interested in, in light of events in the Persian Gulf. Indeed, the similarities between the home scene evolving in response to the Gulf war and the American home front described by Glassman give "The Morning Glory War" an unanticipated immediacy and depth. The author died in 1988. Jeannie Newman, 11, is the sort of smart but self-doubting, competitive but wryly philosophical person who makes a great.

I also loved this book called The Morning Glory War by Judy Glassman. I read that one over and over. Great American Read PBS.

I am a volunteer supporting our troops and working with school children who organize card-writing or care package projects. I love this book and recommend it to elementary schools. Obviously I hope that Jeannie's difficulties don't befall any of the kids who write to our troops today, but the book illustrates the loneliness our troops experience, and how the simple words of a child can mean so much to them.

I never knew the person who wrote this book, but I knew her daughter. She died before I got to know her and reading this book was the only way. It is a story about life in WWII and being in the "smart" class of fifth grade. Her mother makes her wear galoshes (how on earth do you spell that?)-such are the daily problems (simple yet entertaining) that you read about during the book. It was especially touching for me because (as I mentioned before) few people know that it is a true story. It is an easy read, and a short book. It's great for any cold and rainy day!
