we had the My Daddy version and we loved it and it was easily one of my daughter's favorite books. This version, however, is not nearly as engaging and my daughter hated it.

This is obvious 1986 propaganda against working mothers!

Cover: mother is moving away from child, in work clothes.

Story: Child repeatedly looks for Mommy in mother animals; "Where is my mommy? You're not my mommy! I want my mommy!"
(Is "You're not my mommy? referring to childcare providers?)
Animals all claiming their happy looking, present mommies; "This is MY mommy!"

Resolution: Mother comes home from work, complete with skirt, heels, purse, and holds child; looking like a robot, preoccupied, and not present.

Do not read this children!

yes, the mom in work clothes was odd to me too (as noted by the previous reviewer) but it's an adorable book and i'm now searching for the rest in the series. apparently there are 4 all together. this one has been in heavy rotation since we got it 6 months ago. my son is 17 months..
